Location: St Helena Island, South Atlantic
Contract: 2 years FTC available immediately
Salary: £40k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement
Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
In this vital role you will own a caseload of patients, primarily children and adolescents, who have complex and substantial mental health needs.As a member of the Community Mental Health Team you will ensure high quality individualised care that promotes recovery and maximises independence, displaying sensitivity to patient and relatives’ level of understanding and culture.
You must collaborate with the inclusion team, educational psychologist, teachers and children’s social worker to create a comprehensive approach to child and adolescent mental health care planning and delivery. Providing evidence based therapeutic interventions you will, in conjunction with the Psychiatrist, manage the clinic for patients with ADHD.
You will chair the monthly Child and Adolescent Mental Health patient referrals meeting and attend the Children’s Support Team meetings for education and the Children’s Services Child in Need, strategy meetings and Child Protection Conferences. As part of the Mental Health Team you will manage psychiatric inpatient admissions under the direction of the MHT Lead and supervise learners and other care providers in the provision of patient care. As you mentor student nurses and other health and social care students you will ensure a stimulating learning environment. You will also offer a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors including Health, Education, Safeguarding, Learning Disability, Police and the Prison.
A UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent, you have dual qualification RGN/RMN and post registration experience including community psychiatric care and/or a Children & Adolescents Mental Health Service background. You can undertake independent clinical decision making.
As you will be working in a very small team you may also be required to work with adults with mental health problems especially if they are admitted to hospital for an acute mental illness.
