The Senior Mental Health Nurse/ OT Therapy is a key clinical leader within the multidisciplinary care team and will have continuing responsibility to assess, plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence and drive change and promote health and best practice, patient safety and experience. The Mental Health Nurse will be professionally accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing, and operationally
accountable to the Service Manager/Matron.
Job holders must be able to work competently in a challenging environment and be able to react tochanging care demands whilst demonstrating the highest levels of care and empathy towards patients.
This is across all aspects of the role in a flexible manner demonstrating the trust values.
The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
KEY RESULT AREAS:
Carry out and coordinate comprehensive, systematic nursing assessments which take account of relevant mental, physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and environmental factors, in partnership with service user and others through interaction, observation and measurement.
Work collaboratively with other disciplines, service user and their carers to agree a holistic person-centred care plan that addresses the needs identified through assessment.
To deliver and evaluate safe, person centred care in partnership with the service user and their carers to support recovery.
To act as a clinical leader supporting best practice in line with NICE guidance.
To facilitate and review approved Quality Improvement initiatives within the care setting.

Supporting patients to function to their optimal ability in their environment. This will range from encouraging self-care to providing total physical care depending on the needs of the patient.
Maintaining and promoting a safe environment taking account of infection control and identifying and reporting hazards and risks in a timely manner.
Escorting and transporting patients as required as part of their care plan.
Driving own vehicle as per needs of the service and as individual capabilities allow.
Depending on the environment, serving drinks and promoting healthy choices as required to meet individual care plan needs.
Working a full range of shifts as per the requirements of the service. May also be required, at times, to work at other Trust units and/or sites.
Physically able to carry out all duties required of the care setting, following successful completion of physical interventions training as required. Ensuring a process and continuous improvement in the way services are provided.
To provide best practice and value-for-money by reviewing and evaluating services and sharing information internally and externally.

Induction
KMPT is committed to supporting all new staff and this includes a comprehensive Induction programme. The programme's duration depends on role and can be from 2 days to 4 weeks (not always consecutive days).
The Induction programme will provide an excellent opportunity for new staff to meet and engage with KMPT’s subject specialists and include the required training.
The programme may involve some travel to the various training venues across Kent and Medway, the main ones being Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford.

Probation Period . New employees external to Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust are subject to a six-month probationary period.
To deliver an effective service it is essential in some of our roles that you are able to travel between work bases in a timely manner.
