Job summary

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is seeking a Community Phlebotomist to collect venous blood samples across Bodmin and Penzance, based at Bodmin Community Hospital. The role involves outreach, visiting diagnostic hubs in Cornwall and ensuring timely delivery of samples to labs.

Applicants should have venepuncture training, be effective communicators with strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently while adhering to Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) are required.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
• Venepuncture training is expected or required.
• Excellent communication and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

• Collect venous blood samples in community settings and at hospital bases.
• Visit diagnostic hubs and outreach clinics to take samples as directed by clinicians.
• Ensure infection control and confidentiality in all duties.
• Deliver samples to laboratories per policy and maintain accurate records.
• Provide cover for sickness/holiday as needed within RCHT or West Cornwall Hospital.

We are looking to recruit a Community Phlebotomist to expand our team working in the Community across Bodmin and Penzance hospitals. This position will be based at Bodmin Community Hospital. The role is ideally suited for someone who is looking for a new challenging role working out in the Community., To visit the Community diagnostic hubs in Cornwall and outreach clinics to take venous blood samples from patients as requested by a doctor or a member of the nursing staff and in accordance with written procedures. To ensure that your responsibilities for the prevention of infection control are fulfilled by following all Trust policies, guidelines, and protocols. To arrange delivery to the appropriate laboratories according to current Pathology policy. To undertake first line tests on blood samples in accordance with written procedures. To respect patient Confidentiality and Dignity. At all times to work in accordance with the procedures and policies of the Trust, in particular Clinical Skills training package (Practice development) and Health and Safety. To relate to the Lead Phlebotomist on a regular basis to keep up to date and receive regular training. To provide sickness and holiday cover when needed at RCHT or West Cornwall Hospital.,
