Job description

Go back Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust

Community Phlebotomist

The closing date is 23 June 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a community-based phlebotomist to join our locality to support the DN and Anticoagulation teams and housebound patients with their venepuncture requirements.

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, managing their own workload (with support), and be a car driver with access to a vehicle. You will be expected to visit patients in their own homes to take blood samples and deliver them back to collection points in a timely manner.

Full training and support are offered.

Applications from candidates requiring current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible to apply for this position.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake community phlebotomy for housebound patients in their own homes who are unable to attend their GP practice.
  • Support nursing team members with delivery of patient care.
  • Support and liaise with doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Process various specimens appropriately.
  • Undertake blood pressure measurements and record correctly.
  • Perform INR tests and work within standing operating procedures to deliver near-patient testing services.
  • Undertake other clinical duties at the discretion of the lead nurse, e.g., performing ECGs.
  • Ensure evidence-based practice is delivered within the scope of professional practice.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service can present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
