We're looking for a Volunteering & Participation Co‑ordinator (maternity cover) to coordinate volunteering across the Bristol property group. You'll work with teams to deliver excellent volunteer experiences, help develop more inclusive and accessible opportunities that reach new people, and coordinate programmes that use volunteering to support youth skills development and work experience. Through building strong relationships and supporting colleagues and volunteers, you'll help ensure volunteering continues to make a positive impact for people, places and communities.
Salary: £14.16 per hour
Hours: Part‑time, 22.5 hours per week, occasional weekend working
Start date: 11 th January 2027
Contract: This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.
The role is based at Tyntesfield, with an expectation that you’ll occasionally work off‑site, in settings across the Bristol and North Somerset area. Occasional weekend working will be required.
Interviews: 16 th & 17 th November 2026
This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
This role sits within the Bristol property group, which includes a portfolio of National Trust places and countryside. Tyntesfield is the largest and busiest property in the group and will be the main base for the role, but there will also be volunteering activity across the wider portfolio, for example through working with the team at Leigh Woods and Clevedon Court.
Tyntesfield’s location just outside of Bristol means we are on the doorstep of many diverse communities. There is a strong sustainability focus at the property, with working kitchen gardens producing food for the café and restaurant, and a growing commitment to using our land, buildings and skills in ways that deliver wider public benefit.
You’ll be part of the Community, Participation & Volunteering (CPV) team. The role reports to the Senior Community, Participation & Volunteering Manager and focuses specifically on volunteering and participation. You’ll work alongside another Community, Participation & Volunteering Co‑ordinator who leads on the community side of the role and a colleague who leads on engagement with children and young people. We also work closely and collaboratively with other teams across the property group, like the house and outdoors teams, to deliver our work.
You'll play a key role in supporting and developing volunteering across the Bristol Property Group, helping ensure that volunteering is inclusive, rewarding and aligned with both local needs and National Trust priorities.
Working closely with teams across Tyntesfield, Leigh Woods and Clevedon Court, you'll empower and support volunteer managers to create excellent volunteer experiences. You'll provide advice, guidance and practical support to help colleagues recruit, welcome, develop and retain volunteers, while championing best practice and building confidence and capability across teams.
A key focus of the role will be diversifying volunteering opportunities and broadening participation. You'll work with colleagues to develop opportunities that are flexible, welcoming and relevant to a wider range of communities. By creating a broader range of ways for people to get involved, you'll help ensure that volunteering is accessible, inclusive.
You'll also lead on volunteering pathways that support youth skills development and work experience. Working with colleagues and external partners, you'll help design and coordinate opportunities that enable young people to gain confidence, practical experience and transferable skills through volunteering.
The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
