Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate Community Mentor to support young people in overcoming barriers to education and achieving positive outcomes. You will build trusted relationships, provide personalised mentoring, promote attendance and wellbeing, and collaborate with families, schools and external agencies to help every learner thrive.

The role requires daily community-based work, safeguarding awareness, and a full UK driving licence, with ongoing training and real opportunities for

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, youth work, SEND, SEMH or alternative provision.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
• The ability to work independently in community settings while travelling daily.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one mentoring tailored to individual learner needs.
• Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and personal development.
• Monitor attendance and support learners to re-engage with education.
• Complete welfare checks and home visits where required.
• Maintain learner records, risk assessments and progress plans.
• Safeguard young people, recording and reporting concerns in line with statutory guidance.
• Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, local authorities and partner agencies.
• Support learners with transition planning, careers, further education and employment pathways.
• Maintain accurate records using digital systems and contribute to quality assurance and compliance.
