Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurse who has enthusiasm and passion to work within older adult's mental health services.

The Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurse will have the opportunity to consolidate their skills in mental health nursing. We seek someone keen to develop the specialist skills needed in an older adults mental health team.

This post offers a preceptorship, so newly qualified nurses are welcome to apply.

Fylde Coast RITT is an Older Adults Community Mental Health service based at the Lytham Unit, Lytham hospital.

We operate 7 days a week, from 8am to 8pm, with shifts including Early (8-4pm), Late (12-8pm), and some weekend work (currently one in four).

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake mental health assessments, including risk assessments, within a multidisciplinary assessment.
  • Work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to ensure a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Refer to other clinicians within the service or to external services/agencies as necessary.
  • Provide a fast, responsive service to assess individuals' needs for access into mental health services.
  • Facilitate communication between GPs, IAPT, and non-IAPT services in LCFT, and non-statutory services to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Provide mentoring and clinical supervision to staff and trainees on placement.

Education / Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of issues affecting individuals with mental health problems.
  • Understanding of risk and protective factors impacting mental health.
  • Knowledge of medications used in mental health management.
  • Awareness of diversity, anti-discriminatory, and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Familiarity with current mental health legislation and policies, including CPA.
Experience
  • Clinical experience with service users experiencing various mental health issues.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based interventions within a time-limited framework.
  • Ability to determine the most appropriate action from available options.
  • Effective time and caseload management skills.
