Job description

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated maternity community support worker to join our community midwifery team.

This role is based at Wycombe Hospital, with some cross-site working required.

As part of the community team, you will support midwives in delivering care to women throughout pregnancy and postpartum. The role involves lone working, home visits, and collaboration with multi-agency teams in various care settings, including children’s centres.

You will assist community midwives in clinics, support mothers with feeding, and participate in antenatal classes and unit tours.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary maternity care team, caring for women and babies with competence, compassion, and respect, always mindful of consent and principles of equality and diversity.
  2. Follow the guidance of midwives, undertaking delegated tasks once trained and deemed competent, understanding the responsibilities and limitations of the role.
  3. Vigilantly observe mothers and babies, reporting any deviations from normal or concerns regarding physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being to a midwife.
  4. Maintain client confidence and goodwill by performing duties confidently, courteously, and sympathetically.
  5. Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with staff, patients, relatives, and visitors.
