Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to work with the District Nursing Team covering Aberystwyth area.

The successful applicant will possess good communication skills and demonstrate a willingness to develop in the HCSW role. The applicant should be willing to work flexibly within the team, under the supervision of the qualified nurses.

Main duties of the job

In return, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a dynamic community team with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge through training, support and supervision.

As a senior Health Care Support Worker you will be responsible for the delivery of high standard, cost effective nursing care, under the supervision of the Team Leader or delegated representative.

You will ensure that patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by following care plans and treatment interventions as directed by the Team Leader.

Although you will act at all times as directed by the nurse in charge of the caseload, you should be competent to work without direct supervision, within a framework that has been agreed by the Team Leader.

You will communicate effectively at all times and in conjunction with other team members. You will act as a role model for Student Nurses.

The ability to travel in a timely manner between rural sites where there is limited or no public transport.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject OR Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) .
Experience
  • Experience of working within a relevant heath or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
  • Experience of working within the NHS.
Skills and Attributes
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
