Salary – £36,432 - £44,147 per annum

Permanent - Full Time

Location – Richmond Civic Centre, Twickenham, London

Objective of role

Are you enthusiastic and do you believe in the power of communities to effect change?

Would you like to create positive change in the local communities of Richmond and Wandsworth borough through working for local government and wider partners to listen and respond to residents?

If so, this exciting and demanding role may be for you. This role sits within the corporate centre of Richmond Council and plays a key part in delivering the community engagement programme that seeks to inform, involve, and engage residents. The programme emphasizes genuine, meaningful, and ongoing engagement with residents in their local areas.

About the role

This role will focus on engaging residents who are less heard or are covered by the nine protected characteristics as set out in the Equality Act 2010, as well as those who are financially insecure. The work will align with priorities agreed with colleagues in Adults Social Services, Public Health, and Achieving for Children.

You will join an established team with a track record of high-profile engagement events and outreach activities. Building on this foundation, you will work to continue making an impact in the local community, engaging underrepresented groups, and fostering partnerships with officers across the council through innovative approaches.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Ability to articulate key messages from the Council’s engagement strategies, reaching out to diverse audiences and encouraging involvement through in-person and online events, seminars, and communications.
  • Experience in developing and delivering engagement plans on multiple priorities, with skills in stakeholder engagement, event coordination, and administration.
  • Confidence in making arrangements in person, by phone, and online.
  • Willingness to attend evening and weekend events and work with elected councillors.

This role is within the Community and Partnerships Department, working closely with the Voluntary Sector and Partnership teams across Richmond and Wandsworth boroughs to engage residents, voluntary groups, and stakeholders to address key issues.

You should be flexible, capable of re-prioritizing tasks, possess good analytical skills, and be a strong report writer. The ability to translate complex issues into community-focused messages, both written and verbal, is essential.
