Job description

At Wessex Internet, we’re on a mission to connect rural communities with fast, reliable full-fibre broadband.

As a Community Engagement Manager, you’ll play a key role in helping us successfully deliver our fibre network across towns, villages and rural communities. You’ll be the face of Wessex Internet within your allocated communities, building strong relationships and keeping residents, businesses and local stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the journey.

Working closely with our Commercial, Planning, Construction, PMO, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support teams, you’ll manage community engagement from the early planning and awareness stages through construction, customer connections and beyond.

This is a varied, people‑focused role that combines community engagement, stakeholder management, communications and commercial awareness. You’ll need to be confident representing Wessex Internet, comfortable speaking to groups and able to build relationships with a wide range of people.

What would you get as a Community Engagement Manager with Wessex Internet:
  • A salary between £35,000 - £44,000, dependent on experience.

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.

  • Private medical insurance & life assurance.

  • Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.

  • Enhanced family leave policies.

  • Staff broadband discount (75%).

  • High street discounts on 100+ brands.

  • Summer & Christmas team socials.

  • Career development opportunities - Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we’ll support your growth in our fast‑moving business.

What you’ll be doing as a Community Engagement Manager:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, parish councils, local authorities, landowners, businesses and community groups.

  • Lead community engagement across allocated fibre projects, including meetings, drop‑ins, presentations, events and local communications.

  • Increase awareness, registrations and customer uptake by creating enthusiasm for Wessex Internet within each community.

  • Work closely with Planning, Construction, PMO, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support to provide clear, consistent and timely information.

  • Identify and resolve community concerns, including construction activity, access, delays and project changes, escalating issues where required.

  • Track engagement activity, leads and performance, working with the Senior Community Engagement Manager and wider teams to maximise commercial opportunities.

What we’re looking for from our Community Engagement Managers?
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging with a wide range of audiences.

  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills, including confidence presenting to groups and speaking publicly.

  • Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • Strong problem‑solving, negotiation and influencing skills, with a commercially aware approach.

  • Strong written communication, attention to detail and confidence using Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

It would be great if you also have:
  • Experience within telecommunications, utilities, infrastructure or construction.

  • Knowledge or experience of fibre network deployment.

  • Experience using Salesforce, QGIS or similar systems.

  • An understanding of planning, wayleaves, landowner engagement or community consultation

  • Experience working on publicly funded infrastructure programmes or with organisations such as BDUK.

We’re passionate about what we do, and we’re looking for people who share that passion. If you enjoy being out in the community, building relationships and making a tangible difference to the places you work with, this could be the role for you.

Please note:

This role requires a minimum of 4 days per week working either within the Planning team or directly in the community, so flexibility and a willingness to travel across our network area are essential.
