This is a hands-on field leadership role, leading a team of Cable & Survey Engineers while remaining actively involved in surveying, cabling, technical problem-solving and as-built data capture. You'll be responsible for setting the right standards across safety, quality and productivity, while working closely with our Construction Operations and office-based teams.

What would you get as a Cable & Survey Team Lead with Wessex Internet:

  • A salary between £34,500 - £36,500, dependent on experience.

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.

  • Private medical insurance & life assurance.

  • Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.

  • Enhanced family leave policies.

  • Staff broadband discount (75%).

  • High street discounts on 100+ brands.

  • Summer & Christmas team socials.

  • Career development opportunities - Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we'll support your growth in our fast-moving business.

Key Responsibilities as a Cable & Survey Team Lead:

  • Lead and support a team of Cable & Survey Engineers, setting clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity and professional standards.

  • Coordinate daily field activity, ensuring planned work is completed efficiently while identifying and escalating risks or potential job failures early.

  • Carry out and oversee surveys and route assessments, including inspections of ducts, chambers, overhead and underground infrastructure and identifying suitable installation routes.

  • Install and supervise fibre and sub-duct cabling, working across Wessex Internet and Openreach PIA infrastructure and ensuring agreed technical and Street Works standards are followed.

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and problem-solving, supporting engineers on site and making appropriate decisions where work needs to be adapted or escalated.

  • Maintain accurate records and communication, capturing survey, installation and as-built information and liaising with supervisors, Project Managers, Planning, Connections, contractors, customers and landowners.

What we’re looking for from our next Cable & Survey Team Lead:

  • Experience in fibre installation, cabling, surveying, construction or FTTP delivery within the telecommunications industry.

  • Strong knowledge of overhead and underground network infrastructure, ideally including Openreach PIA and fibre network construction.

  • Previous team leadership experience, with the ability to lead and develop engineers while remaining hands-on in the field.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, maps, specifications and network designs, with strong practical problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication, organisation and decision-making skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues, contractors, customers and landowners.

  • A proactive and safety-focused approach, with good IT skills and the flexibility to work outdoors, including at height and in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications & Tickets

The following would be advantageous:

  • Full UK driving licence, held for at least 12 months.

  • Appropriate towing entitlement and experience towing trailers.

  • PIA accreditations, including SA001, SA002, S7 or S8.

  • NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding / Operative Unit 2.

  • IPAF and working-at-height training.

  • Relevant fibre, telecoms, surveying or Street Works qualifications.
