About the Role

Are you enthusiastic and do you believe in the power of communities to effect change? Would you like to create positive change in the local communities of Richmond and Wandsworth boroughs? In this role, you will lead the councils’ ambitious programmes of community engagement, participation, and capacity building with residents and partners. You will foster strong relationships with residents, co-design engagement approaches, and support initiatives like the Community Ambassador programme and Community Conversations. As a representative of the Council, you will inspire trust, demonstrate active listening, and respond effectively to community issues and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead community engagement initiatives to empower residents and strengthen community bonds.
• Develop and implement strategies that enhance resident participation and co-design programs with partners.
• Manage complex projects within political and public environments, ensuring timely delivery.
• Collaborate with Councillors and external stakeholders to support community proposals.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Proven experience in community engagement, participation, or capacity building, from a council, statutory, or voluntary sector background.
• Strong project management skills and experience with co-production and transparent processes.
• Ability to lead teams, manage multiple stakeholders, and communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
• Flexible, analytical, and capable of translating complex issues into community-focused messages.

Additional Information

Operational split: 80% Richmond, 20% Wandsworth. The role is based mainly at Richmond Council offices and involves community engagement activities.
