Job description

The Community Engagement Implementation Manager will play a key role in leading the delivery and coordination of community engagement activities as part of the Perinatal Equity and Anti-Discrimination Programme (PEADP), a national programme of work commissioned by NHS England to address racism and discrimination in perinatal services, being rolled out in 158 maternity and neonatal sites across England. The programme delivery is being led by the Observatory in partnership with Advancing Quality Alliance (Aqua), Inspiring Hope, and White Ribbon Alliance UK. Reporting to the Head of Implementation, the postholder will lead the delivery of PEADP community listening and engagement activities and contribute to the Observatorys wider community engagement strategy. Working closely with Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) leads, Trust community engagement leads, and community organisations across England, they will deliver activities using anti-racist and trauma-informed approaches. This work will deepen understanding of the experiences and outcomes of minoritised communities in maternity and neonatal services and inform improvements in care led by NHS senior leaders participating in the programme. The postholder will also work closely with the Senior Implementation Programme Manager to ensure operational alignment across the programme.,

  • Lead the planning and delivery of community engagement and listening activities that support the Perinatal equity and Equality Anti-Discrimination Programme (PEADP).
  • Build trusted relationships with maternity and neonatal service users, communities, voluntary and community sector organisations, NHS partners and other stakeholders to ensure lived experience informs programme delivery.
  • Co-design and deliver engagement activities that amplify the voices of women, babies and families from communities experiencing health inequalities and racial disparities.
  • Manage community engagement projects coordinating resources, monitoring delivery, managing risks and ensuring programme milestones are achieved.
  • Analyse and communicate community insights, producing reports and recommendations that inform implementation, influence decision-making and support the delivery of PEADP.
  • Work collaboratively with the delivery partners Advancing Quality Alliance (Aqua), Inspiring Hope, and White Ribbon Alliance UK to support the implementation of the PEADP and improve equity in maternity care. The NHS Race and Health Observatory (the Observatory) is an independent organisation, set up to explore ethnic inequalities in access to healthcare, experiences of healthcare, health outcomes, and inequalities experienced by Black and minority ethnic members of the health and care workforce. In doing so, it assesses aspirations in these areas as outlined in national healthcare policy, including those set-out in the NHS Long Term Plan. It is a proactive investigator, providing strong recommendations that inform policymaking and facilitate change. It is evidence-driven and solution-focused.
