An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated first-level registered nurse to join Fife’s Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse Service at 1.0 WTE.
The service operates Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 17:00 with a 60-minute lunch break. It acts as an interface between Primary and Secondary Care for patients with complex diabetes, aiming to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and support patient self-management.
We are committed to improving the patient journey through collaborative work with other health and social care teams. We work closely with the Secondary Care Diabetes Service to provide early supported discharge, patient and professional education, and support to GPs, community nursing, care homes, and hospitals.
Candidates should demonstrate a passion for diabetes care, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work autonomously and in a team. Evidence of recent CPD at degree level minimum is required, along with a recognized diabetes specialty module. Willingness to undertake postgraduate study in diabetes is also expected.
Proficiency with IT systems and Microsoft Office, including Excel, is essential. The role involves travel across Fife, including to patients’ homes.
If you meet these criteria, the service offers supervision, training, mentorship, and support for developing diabetes knowledge and skills, including insulin management and postgraduate modules.
An independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification and Diabetes post-registration module are essential. Candidates who do not meet the Band 6 criteria but have relevant experience or passion may be considered as Band 5, with progression possible after achieving TREND/WAND competencies and NMP qualification.
Changes in legislation from 1 April 2025 may affect criminal record checks. Appointment is subject to PVG scheme membership if the role is regulated. NHS Fife is committed to equality, diversity, and making reasonable adjustments for candidates with disabilities or long-term conditions.
