Job summary

Rethink Mental Illness is seeking a Community Builder to foster connections and strengthen local networks across South Derbyshire. You will spend time out in communities, engaging residents, volunteers, partner organisations and local groups to reduce isolation and increase participation.

You will use asset-based approaches to identify strengths and opportunities, build social networks, and develop new community-led initiatives that create sustainable change and resilience.

Qualifications

  • Confidence facilitating groups, meetings or community activities.
  • A good understanding of local communities and community assets.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • The ability to work independently in a field-based role.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection principles.

  • Working with partners across Derbyshire to strengthen local community offers.
  • Helping community groups access resources and funding opportunities where appropriate.
  • Gathering information and recording outcomes to demonstrate impact.

Location: Field Based Across South Derbyshire

Contract: Permanent, Part Time 17.5 hours

Salary: £12,272.46

Reporting to: Community Voice Network Facilitator

DBS Check: Enhanced

Driving Licence Required: Yes, with access to a vehicle and Business Insurance

We're looking for a Community Builder who is passionate about bringing people together, strengthening local networks and helping communities thrive.

This is a rewarding role for someone who loves meeting people, building relationships and turning ideas into action. You'll spend time out in communities, connecting with residents, volunteers, partner organisations and local groups to reduce isolation and increase opportunities for people to participate, contribute and belong.

About the role

As a Community Builder, you'll use an asset-based community development approach to identify strengths, connections and opportunities within local neighbourhoods.

You’ll work alongside residents, volunteers, community groups and partner organisations to:

  • Build and strengthen local social networks
  • Increase opportunities for volunteering and community participation
  • Connect people with local groups, activities and support
  • Develop new community-led initiatives
  • Support people experiencing social isolation to build meaningful connections
  • Help communities identify local priorities and create sustainable solutions
  • Promote community resilience, wellbeing and inclusion

You’ll also help map local community assets, support volunteer-led projects and maintain records that demonstrate the impact of the service.
