JOB OVERVIEW

Are you a great writer who cares deeply about using comms to deliver a better service to the public? Then this could be just the role for you.

Working in the Met’s communications team is truly one of the most exciting comms opportunities out there, and we’re looking for colleagues to join us!

There is no greater mission than keeping the public safe – our people are the way we achieve this. That’s why this role is integral to the success of the Metropolitan Police Service – our officers, staff and communities depend on excellent communication and engagement.

We’re made up of nearly 40,000 dedicated people, both police officers and police staff. We police the whole of London, and we do it with frontline officers in the heart of communities, with blue lights and sirens, with boats and helicopters, with dogs and horses, with firearms commands, forensics teams, hundreds of dedicated 999 call handlers and so much more. We’d argue you won’t find a more interesting or exciting place to be a communicator.

The jobs our people do are as varied as the communities we protect, so we’re looking for applicants with a varied background who can bring their skills into the mix! You’ll be working at the very heart of the Met and will bring passion, curiosity and creativity to how we build morale, change behaviours and cultures and deliver better policing across the Met.

This role sits in a newly created area of our team covering internal communications as well as internal and external campaigns and marketing. Whilst this role will be heavily focused on internal communications, the successful candidate will be expected to flex across to support other teams and will have experience working in a campaigning environment.

Our ideal candidate is someone with experience across a wide range of communication disciplines who is now ready to grow their career and develop their skills. They’ll need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and appreciate the nature of our work – the Met is a 24/7 organisation and we have to deliver effective comms to suit.

We need strong writing skills, curiosity and eagerness to learn about the Met and its 40,000+ plus officers and staff, and the ability to take an amazing story and build creative comms around it. We’re looking for the right person as well as the right skills, so if you haven’t necessarily got a background in internal comms or marketing and you’ve spent most of your career in press – don’t discount yourself, your skills are hugely transferrable.

Communicating effectively with our people and our communities has never been more important, so if you’re a talented writer with experience across comms, have heaps of enthusiasm and ideas, and care deeply about using comms to better our service, apply now!
