Job description

Murphy is recruiting for a Communications Officer to work within the Communications & Marketing team at Kentish Town - a 12-month fixed-term role.

Operating in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and the USA, Murphy provides better engineered solutions to infrastructure sectors including transportation, water, power, and natural resources. To ensure our project teams operate smoothly, robust support functions are vital.

As part of the Communications & Marketing team, the role supports the company’s purpose and strategy by driving engagement through proactive internal and external communications. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will manage channels such as the intranet, Yammer, emails, newsletters, website, and social media.

A day in the life of a Murphy Communications Officer

1. Deliver content and messages through Murphy’s internal and external communication channels.
2. Collaborate with internal departments to create high-quality, clear, and persuasive content.
3. Research, write, and deliver news stories for the company’s magazine, intranet, and other channels.
4. Support the team in delivering key campaigns.
5. Maintain and update information on the intranet and website.
6. Assist with producing marketing materials, including brochures, profiles, case studies, and award submissions.
7. Lead on digital/internal communication channels, including reporting and measurement.
8. Implement best practices for communication channels and processes.
9. Engage in learning and development activities.
10. Participate in team and business meetings.
11. Contribute to performance review processes and strive for continuous improvement.

• A degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or at least three years of relevant experience.
• Excellent writing and proofreading skills with a creative outlook.
• Understanding of in-house communications operations and best practices.
• Knowledge of digital and offline communication channels.
• Ability to deliver communications tactically under tight deadlines, with flexibility and multitasking skills.
• Experience with SharePoint (modern) and strong presentation and oral communication skills.
• Ability to produce and edit short videos.
• Construction or engineering experience is preferred.
