Job description

Role: Communications & Engagement Executive - 2 year fixed-term contract - Belfast

VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with a prominent organisation within the infrastructure sector, who are seeking to appoint a Communications & Engagement Executive. This individual will play a key role in supporting the effective delivery of public and stakeholder engagement, as well as communications activity, in relation to a major electricity infrastructure programme.

  • Salary: Competitive + Benefits
  • Location: Belfast - Hybrid working model (2 days from home)
  • Contract Type: 2-Year Fixed-Term Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a representative of the organisation in engagement with local communities, media, elected representatives, council officials, and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the implementation of communications and engagement strategies for key infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and partners to support campaign execution.
  • Develop, manage, and deliver community consultation plans, including reporting and content development.
  • Organise and facilitate public events, and manage related digital communications platforms.
  • Support regional media relations and deliver targeted social and digital media content.
  • Evaluate and refine the organisation's approach to community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to the delivery of wider corporate communications activities as required.
  • Share responsibility for out-of-hours issues management alongside other team members.

Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of one year's experience in a communications, public engagement, or stakeholder liaison role.
  • A third-level qualification in a relevant field (e.g. communications, planning, politics, journalism), OR a minimum of three years' relevant experience in lieu of a qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective communications to support project outcomes.
  • Strong planning and organisational capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • A basic understanding of energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • A genuine interest in community engagement and development.
  • Possession of a full, clean driving licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in planning and delivering public events.
  • Experience working directly with or within local communities.
  • Understanding of local government structures and planning processes.
