Job description

Corporate Communications Assistant

Corporate Affairs | Dartford

Looking for that first big step into corporate communications? Are you passionate about storytelling and excited by the different ways a great story can be brought to life across digital, social and traditional channels?

Laing O'Rourke has an exciting role where you can learn, create, contribute and build experience across the full communications mix.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone at the beginning of their Marketingcareer who wants hands‑on experience across social media, digital communications, PR, internal communications, content creation, events and brand.

From major infrastructure and cutting-edge engineering to hospitals, universities and some of the UK's most recognisable construction projects, there are plenty of stories to tell at Laing O'Rourke.

You won't be limited to one area of communications. You'll work alongside an experienced Corporate Affairs team, collaborate with people across our business and gain exposure to high‑profile clients and leading communications agencies.

What will you be doing?
  • Support our social media presence, helping manage content and analyse how our channels are performing.
  • Update our digital channels, including our websites and intranet.
  • Get creative with photography and video, carrying out simple edits and helping manage our image and video libraries.
  • Get involved in events, from employee briefings to major construction milestones and media visits.
  • Experience PR and media relations, supporting our press office, monitoring media coverage and helping manage incoming media enquiries.
  • Support internal communications, helping colleagues deliver campaigns and communications across the organisation.
  • Build your own experience, progressing towards developing and delivering communications plans and campaigns as your confidence grows.
  • Provide day‑to‑day coordination and administrative support that helps keep the Corporate Affairs team running effectively.
What are we looking for?

Above all, we're looking for someone who is curious, creative, organised and excited about brining content to life.

You'll ideally bring:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A real interest in social media, digital communications, PR or corporate communications.
  • Confidence communicating and building relationships with different people.
  • Good organisation, time management and self‑motivation.
  • The ability to prioritise and stay positive in a busy, fast‑moving environment.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to get involved.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Confidence using social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Qualifications

Ideally, you'll have a degree or equivalent qualification in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related discipline.

GCSE English at grade A*-C, or equivalent, is essential.
