Job summary

Reading Industrial Pertemps seeks a Commodity Buyer to manage key suppliers and ensure timely procurement of materials for production. You will work closely with internal teams to maintain smooth operations across engines, mechanical parts, composites and specialist components.

The role requires experience in buying or procurement within manufacturing, ERP (SAP) familiarity, and strong negotiation skills. A detail-oriented, proactive approach is essential to keeping production on track.

Qualifications

• Experience in buying, procurement or supply chain within manufacturing/engineering.
• Experience managing purchase orders and working with suppliers.
• ERP experience, ideally SAP.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Place purchase orders to ensure materials are available when needed.
• Monitor deliveries and ensure timely arrival of materials.
• Chase suppliers if orders are delayed or at risk of late delivery.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues.
• Maintain supplier and purchase order data in the ERP system.
• Update delivery dates and purchasing information in SAP.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain and Production teams.
• Read and understand technical drawings and product information.
• Identify and solve supply and delivery issues.
• Support the wider team with other duties as required.

Commodity Buyer

Location: Wallingford

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

You will be responsible for managing a group of key suppliers and making sure the parts and materials needed for production are ordered on time and delivered when required.

You will work closely with suppliers and internal teams to keep production running smoothly, covering areas such as engines and mechanical parts, composites and specialist components.

What You'll Be Doing

• Placing purchase orders to ensure materials are available when needed.
• Monitoring supplier deliveries and making sure materials arrive on time.
• Chasing suppliers when orders are delayed or at risk of being late.
• Building strong relationships with suppliers.
• Monitoring supplier performance and resolving any issues.
• Keeping supplier information and purchase orders up to date on the ERP system.
• Maintaining accurate delivery dates and purchasing information on SAP.
• Working closely with the Supply Chain and Production teams.
• Reading and understanding technical drawings and product information.
• Identifying and solving supply and delivery issues.
• Supporting the wider team with other duties when required.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in buying, procurement or supply chain, ideally within manufacturing or engineering.
• Experience working with suppliers and managing purchase orders.
• Experience using an ERP system, ideally SAP.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to understand technical drawings and technical information.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Confident and assertive when dealing with suppliers.
• Good attention to detail and an analytical approach.
• Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
