At Sodexo, you'll belong in a kitchen team where your skills and hard work help keep the operation running smoothly. Working alongside the Sous Chef and Chef de Partie, you'll support the day-to-day food production, helping prepare fresh ingredients and ensuring everything is ready for service.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build their experience in a professional kitchen. The role is particularly focused on food preparation, including chopping, washing, peeling and preparing ingredients ready to be cooked by the senior chefs. You'll be working within a busy operation serving between 800 and 1,500 people, so good organisation, teamwork and the ability to work at pace are important.
What you'll do
- Prepare fresh ingredients ready for service and production
- Chop, peel, wash and portion ingredients as required
- Prepare vegetables, salads and other food items to the required specification
- Support the Sous Chef and Chef de Partie with daily food production
- Ensure ingredients are prepared accurately and on time
- Set up your designated preparation area ready for service
- Follow recipes, specifications and instructions from senior chefs
- Ensure food is handled safely and hygienically at all times
- Carry out temperature checks, food labelling and dating as required
- Maintain stock rotation and minimise food waste
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries
- Keep your work area clean, tidy and organised throughout the day
- Follow cleaning and sanitation schedules
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and HACCP
- Follow COSHH, health & safety and company procedures
- Report any hazards, defects or equipment issues to the senior chef
- Support colleagues and assist across the kitchen when required
- Help maintain a smooth and efficient kitchen operation
- Attend required training and meetings
- Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by management
What you’ll bring
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food preparation environment
- Around 1 year of experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment is desirable
- Good understanding of basic food preparation techniques
- Confidence using knives safely for food preparation
- Good understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety
- Ability to follow instructions and work to recipes and specifications
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a busy environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A positive, flexible and proactive approach
- Willingness to learn and develop your culinary skills
- Good attention to detail and pride in your work
- Professional appearance and commitment to wearing the correct uniform
- Experience within a high-volume kitchen or catering environment
- Experience preparing food for large numbers
- HACCP knowledge
- Experience within a corporate, hotel, restaurant or hospitality environment
- Professional cookery qualification
