Job summary

Sodexo Group in Crawley is looking for a Casual Chef to join our on-site catering team. The role covers restaurant, coffee shop, hospitality and events services, with hours as required and a competitive salary based on experience.

You will prepare and present high-quality meals, maintain food safety and hygiene, support busy service periods and work closely with the wider catering team to deliver excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' chef experience in a cafe, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
• Experience in high-quality food production and presentation.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present high-quality food across restaurant, coffee shop, hospitality and events.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and service.
• Support daily food production and ensure meals are ready on time.
• Help develop new menu ideas and track trends.
• Ensure food prepared according to Food Safety and company standards.
• Keep kitchen clean and hygienic and assist Front of House during busy periods.
• Coordinate daily prep tasks to meet restaurant and event needs.
• Follow opening/closing procedures.
• Monitor waste and control costs.

What you'll do:

• Prepare, cook and present high-quality food across the restaurant, coffee shop, hospitality and events services.
• Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and service.
• Support the smooth day-to-day running of food production, ensuring meals are prepared and delivered on time.
• Help develop and introduce new menu ideas, keeping up with changing customer tastes and food trends.
• Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with Food Safety, hygiene, Health & Safety and company standards.
• Maintain food safety management systems and complete all required records and documentation accurately.
• Ensure the kitchen and food production areas are kept clean, organised and hygienic at all times.
• Support the Front of House team during busy service periods when required.
• Coordinate daily food preparation tasks to ensure restaurant, hospitality and event requirements are delivered to a high standard.
• Follow opening and closing procedures within designated catering areas.
• Monitor food production, quality, portion control and waste to support budget and profitability targets.
• Work within agreed purchasing and supply chain procedures.
• Ensure equipment is used correctly and safely and report any issues promptly.
• Take part in team briefings, meetings, training and Health & Safety activities.
• Deliver excellent customer service and respond positively to customer needs and feedback.
• Work collaboratively with the wider catering team to continually improve the food and service offer.

What you'll bring:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Chef.
• Previous experience within a restaurant, hospitality or similar food service environment.
• A passion for producing high-quality food and delivering excellent service.
• Good knowledge of food safety, food hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good IT skills and the confidence to use systems required as part of the role.
• The ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment and manage changing priorities.
• Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• A customer-focused approach and a genuine commitment to service excellence.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a wider catering team.
• A proactive approach with the confidence to contribute ideas for menus and service improvements.
• An understanding of food costs, waste control and working within agreed budgets would be beneficial.
• Previous experience working within a standards and compliance-focused environment would be advantageous.
