Job Description:

Transport Services manages the maintenance and repair of the council’s vehicle fleet, plant, and equipment, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, hire company standards, and manufacturer targets. The Commercial Vehicle Technician (Level 3) supports the Workshop Manager by maintaining the Council’s fleet, including third-party and plant maintenance, ensuring processes are effective, timely, and cost-efficient while adhering to legislative and health safety standards.

Our workshop at Oakleigh Depot services a large fleet of vehicles used for frontline services such as recycling, waste collection, street cleansing, ground maintenance, and passenger services. We maintain vehicles like RCVs and vans to and above VOSA standards. Vehicle technicians are expected to deliver efficient, safe, and legally compliant maintenance, fostering continuous improvement and a 'right first time' culture.

Applicants must possess City and Guilds and IMI qualifications, with experience maintaining commercial LGV and plant equipment. Experience with Mercedes and Dennis vehicles and buses is required. An up-to-date MOT test qualification and the ability to drive a class 2 vehicle are essential. Candidates should be courteous and helpful, representing the Council positively, and flexible to work shifts as needed.

Professional qualifications include NVQ 3 or IMI 3 Heavy Motor Vehicle qualification or equivalent, qualified as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector (VOSA accreditation), and at least GCSE level education including English and Maths, or demonstrable relevant experience.
