Job summary

911 Staffing Ltd in Swindon is recruiting a Commercial Vehicle Technician for a permanent, Monday to Friday role. The position offers 7am-5pm with potential flexibility to accommodate school hours, and a starting salary of £35,100 per annum, rising to £39,000 after a six-month probation.

You will service, inspect and maintain heavy vehicles and fleet equipment, diagnose faults, perform repairs, document work and support breakdowns on-site with on-call duties as required.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining commercial, non-commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Supervisory skills to guide junior staff and ensure safe workshop operations.
• Hands-on experience with heavy equipment and safety standards.
• Vocational qualification or apprenticeship in vehicle mechanics or automotive engineering.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to read technical manuals, use diagnostic equipment and keep service records.
• Full, valid driving licence; HGV licence is an advantage.
• Experience in commercial vehicle or fleet maintenance highly beneficial (Level 2 & 3).

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and maintenance on commercial and non-commercial vehicles, including heavy equipment, to meet safety and regulatory requirements.
• Diagnose faults, perform mechanical and electrical repairs, complete scheduled maintenance, and document all work.
• Use diagnostic tools, follow manufacturer guidelines, order parts as needed, and collaborate with workshop team.
• Attend breakdowns and support vehicle recovery, including on-call rota.
