Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Barrow/NW

Type: Permanent

Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our team on a new project based on-site in Barrow. The role involves managing the project commercial team, advising senior management on risks and opportunities from tender to completion, supporting the Commercial Director with regional accounts, and contributing to contract reviews. This is a permanent position with NG Bailey, expected to last approximately 2 years, with potential for further work on the site.

We are also open to considering candidates at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety is prioritized in all activities.
  • Maintain accurate risk and opportunity schedules, identifying measures to protect the company and improve profitability.
  • Implement mitigation strategies and report outcomes.
  • Lead the commercial team, maximizing team and individual potential.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and vendors; negotiate contract terms, valuations, and final accounts.
  • Attend contract reviews and ensure cost and value forecasts are accurate.
  • Assist in preparing business plans and management accounts; maintain records to manage disputes.
  • Monitor and manage project commercial performance.
  • Collaborate with the project team to develop the commercial plan, communicating obligations and risks.
  • Manage payment applications and ensure timely receipt of funds.
  • Oversee subcontract commercial aspects, including terms and conditions.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Significant experience in managing the commercial performance of construction projects.
  • Experience with NEC contracts preferred.
  • Experience managing a team.
