Job summary

Qualifications

  • Understanding of cost management, forecasting, change control and risk.
  • Experience supporting Project Managers with commercial strategy and contract compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills for presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Desirable public-sector or regulated client experience.
  • May require UK residency proof for vetting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial management of NEC4 contracts, including PSC and ECC.
  • Manage Early Warnings, Compensation Events, change control and programme impacts.
  • Advise Project Managers on contract risk, compliance and commercial strategy.
  • Prepare and review contractual correspondence, notices and records.
  • Maintain contract compliance audit trails.
  • Establish financial controls across portfolios.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, cashflow and earned value.
  • Identify variances and risks early.
  • Produce monthly financial reports at portfolio level.
  • Support period-end processes and revenue recognition.
  • Lead commercial change management and assess scope changes.
  • Maintain risk and opportunity registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Support disputes resolution and interface with clients.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Directors and discipline leads.
  • Ensure governance, thresholds and authorities are followed.
  • Improve processes, templates and controls.
  • Support audits and internal reviews.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

  • Lead commercial management of NEC4 contracts, including PSC and ECC where applicable
  • Manage Early Warnings, Compensation Events, change control, programme impacts and entitlement assessments
  • Advise Project Managers on contract risk, compliance and commercial strategy
  • Prepare, review and agree contractual correspondence, notices, assessments and records
  • Maintain contract compliance audit trails
  • Establish financial controls across a portfolio of projects
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, cashflow and earned value
  • Identify variances and risks early
  • Produce monthly financial reports at portfolio or department level
  • Support period-end processes, accruals, revenue recognition and reconciliation with financial systems
  • Lead commercial change management and assess scope changes, programme changes, resourcing variations and client instructions
  • Maintain commercial risk and opportunity registers and develop mitigation strategies
  • Support resolution of commercial issues and disputes
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Directors and discipline leads
  • Interface with clients and supply chain partners
  • Support negotiations while protecting the organisation’s contractual position
  • Ensure compliance with internal commercial governance, approval thresholds and delegated authorities
  • Improve commercial processes, templates and controls
  • Support audits and internal reviews
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement
Requirements
  • Experience as a Commercial Manager managing projects under NEC4 forms of contract
  • Experience in major programmes and complex infrastructure within construction, engineering, manufacturing, oil and gas or UK Public Sector organisation
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial/construction discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through practice
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or an equivalent recognised body
  • Proven ability to manage financial controls across multiple concurrent projects or programmes
  • Sound understanding of cost management, forecasting, change control and commercial risk
  • Experience supporting Project Managers with commercial strategy and contract compliance
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to present clear, concise commercial information to senior stakeholders
  • Desirable: experience within public-sector or regulated client environments
  • Desirable: familiarity with consultancy-led professional services contracts
  • May require security clearance
  • May require proof of residency in the UK for 5 years or longer for vetting
