Job summary

ES Recruit is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Senior Commercial Lead to oversee multiple projects in Bolton. You will manage NEC contracts, subcontractor agreements, variations, and final accounts, while monitoring cash flow and project financial performance.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week with a hybrid arrangement (Fridays from home). The role offers a salary of £70k–£75k depending on experience, plus a benefits package including 25

Qualifications

Experience with NEC contracts and strong contractual understanding.
Senior level quantity surveying experience with management responsibilities.
Knowledge of project finances, CVR, and commercial reporting.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor and develop the Commercial team across multiple projects.
Oversee NEC contracts, subcontractor agreements, variations and final accounts.
Monitor cash flow, WIP, CVR and monthly commercial reporting to achieve targets.
Identify commercial risks and opportunities with project managers and stakeholders.
Manage payment applications and negotiate with subcontractors while improving procedures.

Job description

This position would suit an experienced Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Senior Commercial Lead with a strong background in construction, civil engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing NEC contracts, subcontractor agreements, project finances and commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage and develop the Commercial team, providing clear direction, mentoring and professional development to ensure effective commercial support across multiple projects.
Oversee contractual and commercial management activities, including NEC contracts, subcontractor agreements, variations, change control, final accounts and contractual compliance.
Monitor project financial performance, including cost forecasting, cash flow, work in progress (WIP), cost value reconciliation (CVR), profit margins and monthly commercial reporting.
Work closely with Project Managers, Planners and senior stakeholders to identify commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring projects achieve agreed financial targets and contractual obligations.
Manage payment applications, debtor recovery, subcontractor accounts and commercial negotiations, whilst developing strong client relationships and driving continuous improvement in commercial procedures.
