Transaction Recruitment is helping a Birmingham-based business recruit a Commercial Management Accountant. The role is hybrid, based at Birmingham Business Park, with exposure to project and operational teams and international operations.

The ideal candidate will have substantial accounting experience, a degree in Accounting/Finance/Business, and a willingness to pursue professional qualifications; strong Excel and project cost accounting system experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a finance or accounting role.
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with solid accounting knowledge.
• Part-qualified (AAT/CIMA/ACCA) advantageous but not essential.
• Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
• Hands-on experience using a project cost accounting system.

Responsibilities

• Liaising with project managers to obtain sign-off ahead of client billing.
• Setting up new projects on the accounting system, including budget revisions and cost transfers.
• Maintaining and validating billing rates across the project portfolio.
• Calculating and posting management fees and other direct cost entries.
• Producing regular cost reports for project managers, weekly or on request.
• Processing project-related purchase ledger transactions.
• Managing the sales ledger and chasing outstanding payments.
• Handling transactions across multiple currencies and issuing invoices.
• Supporting the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks.

About the Business

A fantastic opportunity to join a well-established services business based at Birmingham Business Park as a Commercial Management Accountant with a salary of £35,000 - £42,000. Main Duties:

• Liaising with project managers to obtain sign-off ahead of client billing
• Setting up new projects on the accounting system, including budget revisions and cost transfers as required
• Maintaining and validating billing rates across the project portfolio
• Calculating and posting management fees and other direct cost entries
• Producing regular cost reports for project managers, on a weekly basis or as requested
• Processing project-related purchase ledger transactions
• Managing the sales ledger, including chasing outstanding customer payments
• Handling transactions across multiple currencies
• Producing and issuing accurate monthly client invoices, complete with all required supporting documentation
• Supporting the wider finance team with ad hoc projects and tasks as required

What We Are Looking For

• Significant relevant experience within a finance or accounting role
• An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, with a solid working knowledge of accounting principles
• Part qualified accountant (AAT/CIMA/ACCA) status is advantageous but not essential
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of documentation and information
• Confident, personable communication style, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external contacts
• Strong Excel skills alongside good analytical ability
• Hands-on experience using a project cost accounting system
