Our national commercial team brings together our general commercial, digital, IP, energy and renewables, projects, and procurement teams. Representing an impressive range of FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 clients, public sector organizations, educational institutions, and industry bodies, the team handles high-profile, business-critical projects and regulatory matters. It plays a vital role in helping clients build growth and success. The team, one of the largest and most successful of its type, includes sector specialists across various industries, such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, aerospace and defense, energy and renewables, transport and logistics, and international trade. Our lawyers are based across UK offices and are recognized leaders in their fields. The team collaborates with US colleagues on international transactions and projects and works with global member firms on international client projects. We combine City presence with local knowledge to assist foreign inward investors in the UK.

To support our pipeline of projects, we have an opportunity for a 3+ to senior PQE commercial contracts lawyer to join the team.

What does the team do?

We advise on a full range of contractual arrangements related to strategic projects and daily business operations across diverse industries. We focus on supporting advanced manufacturing companies, from major process plant operators to specialized life sciences supply chain businesses. Our work includes procurement, supply chain management, product development, and routes to market. We are particularly active in energy transition, decarbonization projects, and productivity initiatives.

You will be involved in all transaction and project aspects, including contract strategy, drafting, negotiation, some data protection (supported by our privacy specialists), and risk management.

Joining us now is exciting. You will be part of a diverse team that values support and creativity as we explore innovative ways to deliver advice. You will work closely with in-house legal teams and provide similar support to businesses without internal lawyers. Our team members' industry experience means your workload will resemble in-house work, but you'll serve a broad client base, keeping your work varied. You will collaborate with specialists in other areas as needed.

You will help expand our work on multi-jurisdictional projects. Based in northern England, you'll work on large industrial projects for multinational corporations and support rapidly growing scale-up businesses and SMEs. There are opportunities to help regional and UK businesses enter new markets, especially in the USA and Saudi Arabia, including international secondments.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

We seek a lawyer with 3+ years post-qualification experience in commercial contracts, gained at a City or large regional firm or in-house. Experience working with international clients, particularly in import/export, is highly valued. Knowledge of tech, IP, and data protection is beneficial but not essential. Regardless of experience level, you must have excellent drafting and communication skills, enthusiasm for the practice area, and a commitment to delivering first-class client service.

Minimum requirements include:

  • At least 3 years of post-qualified experience in commercial contracts as a UK solicitor.
  • Practical experience in a commercial environment, applying contract law at a large firm or in-house.
  • Expertise in complex transactions, including supply chain management, procurement, outsourcing, research and development, and sales of goods and services.
  • The ability to explain complex legal advice clearly and practically to non-lawyers.
