Commercial Finance Manager - Retail & Property
What will you do as a Commercial Finance Manager?
- Partner and communicate effectively with the Property team & Retail Director/RBMs to ensure the Finance team has a strong understanding of Property Activities and UK Retail Operations.
- Deliver insightful performance analysis of UK Retail. Identify risks, opportunities, and challenge the teams to ensure targets are met, improving overall Sales and Profitability across the channel.
- Attend weekly property board meetings and pre-board preparation meetings with the brand/retail and property teams to assess new store opportunities. Provide appropriate challenge and support to ensure business cases are robust.
- Drive the forecast and budgeting process for UK Retail & Property, including:
- Agree assumptions in advance, covering key cost areas like NMW and Energy assumptions.
- Assess risks and opportunities to the numbers presented.
- Set up modeling/scenario analysis to evaluate sensitivity.
- Collaborate with the Retail Analyst to ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly routines such as store costs, property costs, retail team overheads, and balance sheet reconciliations, as well as cash flow forecasts for occupancy costs.
Ad hoc tasks
- Handle ad hoc requests and wider commercial finance tasks beyond store analysis as required.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop one direct report (Retail Finance Analyst) and work with the Head of Commercial Finance to foster wider team development.
What you will need to succeed as a Commercial Finance Manager?
- Qualified (CIMA, ACA, or ACCA) with relevant commercial finance experience.
- Proactive, resilient, adaptable, and a team player with a drive to make a difference.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex information clearly to all levels.
- Attention to detail, highly analytical, and comfortable working with large datasets and advanced modeling.
- Flexible approach to deliverables as needed.
- Strong Excel and system skills.
Desired qualifications and experience
- Experience in Retail or consumer-facing industries.
- Familiarity with reporting systems such as Coda and Cognos.
