Role / Department Overview

The primary focus of the Commercial Finance Analyst (CFA) is to support the firm's client/matter life cycle, including:

• Matter tracking and monitoring, flagging any deviation from matter budget
• Producing financial reports and analysis;
• Matter pricing and resource planning - including reporting to Business Managers around compliance with pricing governance framework
• Quality assurance for matter set up and commercial terms for high value matters and commercial arrangements

The role requires extensive interaction with stakeholders in the legal and central teams and therefore a professional, confident, enthusiastic and solution-based approach is essential.

Main Responsibilities

• Business Manager support, including review of monthly profit and loss analysis, partner financial reports, annual budgeting, and working capital management
• Supporting Senior Commercial Manager in project delivery
• Supporting matter pricing and large opportunity analysis, attending kick-off meetings, and presenting pricing proposals
• Assisting with ad hoc requests from Practice and Division heads, such as additional analysis of monthly numbers or partner performance
• Collaborating with financial teams to drive annual rate reviews across jurisdictions
• Producing strategic financial analysis for cross-functional initiatives and reporting improvements
• Training legal and business services teams on financial tools and reports
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies in all activities

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Excellent time management to handle tight deadlines
• Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including vlookups and pivot tables), Power BI, Word, and PowerPoint
• Experience with 3e, IBM TM1, or similar systems
• Ability to identify and escalate risks
• Willingness to travel as needed
• Flexibility to perform routine and complex tasks as directed
