Job summary

Dalkia UK is seeking a Commercial Director to lead the commercial strategy and performance across energy services nationwide. London or Leeds, national role, Senior Leadership Team member.

The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership, shaping procurement, risk management and contract governance while driving growth in decarbonisation and energy infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in engineering, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
• Proven ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements and manage risk.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts; experience with bespoke contracts is a plus.
• Track record of improving commercial performance and delivering transformation.

The Opportunity

What You'll Be Doing

Lead the Business

Be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping shape business strategy and long-term growth.

• Influence expansion across healthcare, district heating, industrial decarbonisation, energy infrastructure and emerging low-carbon technologies.
• Drive commercial input into business planning, budgeting and forecasting.
• Develop and implement a strategic procurement function that delivers value through supplier partnerships, drives cost efficiencies, strengthens supply chain resilience and supports the successful delivery of complex engineering and energy infrastructure projects.

Build a High-Performing Commercial Function

Inspire, mentor and develop an exceptional Commercial team.

• Lead Procurement and Document Control functions, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Develop succession plans and future leaders.
• Improve commercial processes, systems and ways of working.

Drive Commercial Performance

Improve project profitability, forecasting accuracy and cash generation.

• Ensure transparent commercial reporting across the business.
• Provide commercial leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Deliver best-in-class commercial governance and controls.

Protect the Business

• Lead negotiations on major client contracts and supplier agreements.
• Provide expert guidance on NEC4, JCT and bespoke commercial contracts.
• Manage commercial risk across the business.
• Lead the resolution of major commercial disputes and claims when required.

Shape Procurement Strategy

• Develop procurement strategies that support sustainable growth.
• Build strategic supplier relationships.
• Deliver value through smarter procurement and commercial innovation.

About You

You’ll already be operating in a senior commercial leadership position within engineering, infrastructure, construction or the energy sector and be looking for an opportunity where your influence genuinely matters.

You’ll bring:

• Significant senior commercial leadership experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure or energy.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 and JCT contracts (bespoke commercial contracts involving third-party financiers would be advantageous)
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing contractual risk.
• A track record of improving commercial performance and delivering business transformation.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• The ability to simplify processes and drive continuous improvement.
• A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing high-performing teams.
• Commercial acumen combined with strategic thinking and strong business judgement.
• The credibility to influence at Board and Executive level.
