Job summary

Aureos is seeking a Commercial Controller to join the SPN team in the south region. You will support the commercial function across national rail infrastructure projects, focusing on profitability, cash management, and robust reporting.

The role requires deep commercial understanding and hands-on involvement in pricing, forecasting and sub-contract management. Working within Aureos SPN, you will collaborate with contract delivery teams, drive cost control, and contribute to timely applications

Qualifications

  • Essential: 10 years plus industry experience in a Commercial/business admin role.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret construction industry conditions of contract.
  • Post degree experience in contracting commercial department preferably within the rail industry.

Responsibilities

  • Support contract delivery teams to ensure profitability, cash management, cost control and accurate reporting of schemes.
  • Input into the application and credit control processes.
  • Understand income forecast and pricing of variations.
  • Understand change control system and project risk, CVRs and forecasting data.]
  • Assist with weekly cost to complete/budget reviews and sub-contract management.
  • Prepare monthly financial performance reports and related documentation.

Aureos are seeking a Commercial Controller to join our team working in the south region. Working within Aureos Strategic Private Network (SPN) business, and forming a part of the Commercial team, the Commercial Controller plays an integral part in delivering exceptional commercial results. Core responsibilities encompass project delivery, commercial reporting and maximising profit. Aureos SPN work collaboratively with our customers to deliver critical national infrastructure projects across the UK’s rail network. Our goals are to: Grow: turnover, margin and customer satisfaction Improve: operational delivery, reliability and outcomes Sustain: our people, communities and the environment With sustainable growth in mind, our Commercial controller is responsible for assisting the commercial team in completing and maintaining well organised records, contribution to the timely production of applications for payment and accurate project reporting.

Primary tasks and duties
  • Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will assist the commercial team in providing support to the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cash management, cost control and accurate reporting of all schemes.
  • Input into the application and credit control processes
  • Understanding of income forecast and pricing of variations
  • Understanding of the change control system
  • Understanding of project risk
  • Understanding of the production of CVRs
  • Understanding of CTC
  • Understanding the production of forecasting data
  • Understanding the costing process
  • Understanding the management of the full sub-contract cycle and input into sub-contract documentation
  • Assisting with weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams.
  • Upload documentation as and when necessary, in line with business requirements
  • Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries.
  • Attend project progress meetings.
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial performance reports

  • The Commercial Controller is responsible for the following in this respect: Ensure that the group commercial policies are adhered to and that the requirements of legislation are met
  • Manage commercial performance against business targets and KPI’s
  • Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement
  • Promote a culture of integration, continuous improvement and use of best practice across the client base
  • Assisting with the use of key lean tools to drive efficiencies and reduce waste
  • Encourage, support and assist with the delivery of successful collaborative planning with the contract delivery teams

Expectations

Targets for the Commercial Controller will be set and reviewed on a 6 monthly basis, aligned with the responsibilities and behaviours listed within this job description. The section below will be used to record key targets, which will align with Performance Reviews undertaken via the current Group process. The Commercial Controller is expected to:

  • Contribute to the timely achievement of forecast figures for turnover, profit and income
  • Contribute to timely production of accurate internal accounts and internal/external reports/audits
  • Contribute to timely production of accurate cost and forecasting information
  • Contribute to change control system
  • Contribute to prompt placement and payment of sub-contracts.
  • Maintenance of sub-contract KPI reports
  • Maintain Professional Development Log
Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • 10 years plus industry experience in Commercial / business admin role
  • Suitable post degree experience working in contracting commercial department preferably within the rail industry
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret construction industry conditions of contract
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages (Excel)
