Commercial & Contract Manager

Derby | Excellent Salary + Company Performance Bonus + Benefits

Take your commercial career into a specialist technology environment

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager or Commercial Manager looking for a role where you can broaden your commercial and contractual expertise beyond a traditional construction environment?

This is an opportunity to join a technically driven organisation delivering high-integrity technology and control systems across some of the UK's most important infrastructure environments, including Intelligent Transport Systems, Highways, Airports and Power.

You’ll take a key role in protecting and enhancing the commercial performance of a diverse portfolio of technology-led projects, working closely with Project Managers, Directors, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

The Opportunity

As Commercial & Contract Manager, you’ll provide commercial and contractual support throughout the full project lifecycle. You’ll have genuine exposure to:

  • Client contract review, negotiation and administration
  • NEC3 and NEC4 contract management
  • Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
  • Commercial and contractual risk management
  • Subcontract procurement, negotiation and administration
  • Change management and the preparation of quotations
  • Client payment applications and supplier/subcontractor assessments
  • Contractual notices and commercial communications
  • Resolution of contractual and commercial issues
  • Commercial reporting and the development of best practice

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with senior decision-makers across the business, this is a role where your commercial judgement will have a visible impact.

What are we looking for?

You’ll be a commercially astute and organised professional who is confident managing contracts, negotiating with stakeholders and balancing multiple priorities.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Law or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong practical knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4
  • Experience managing Compensation Events, Early Warnings and NEC payment mechanisms
  • A sound understanding of contract law and construction contracts
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating client and subcontract agreements
  • Strong commercial awareness and contract management capability
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills

Professional membership is desirable, but not essential.

Why consider the opportunity?

This isn’t simply another commercial management position. You’ll be joining a specialist technology business where commercial and contractual expertise sits alongside complex engineering and infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with experienced senior leaders, gain exposure to a broad range of commercial activity and have the opportunity to develop your career within a technically sophisticated environment. The role is primarily based in Derby, with flexible working arrangements. Travel is relatively infrequent and generally limited to occasional client, supplier or project meetings.

Package
  • £57,500 - £67,500 basic salary, depending on experience
  • Company performance-related bonus
  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • Flexitime (Core Hours 09:30-16:00 Monday - Thursday, 09:30 - 13:00 Fridays)
  • Pension scheme
  • Monthly wellbeing allowance
  • Health cash plan
  • Life assurance
  • Private medical insurance
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment
Interested?

If you’re an experienced commercial professional with strong NEC contract experience and are looking for a position that offers greater breadth, technical exposure and the opportunity to work on high-profile infrastructure technology projects, we’d be keen to hear from you.
