THOMAS Professional is recruiting an experienced CNC Turner—Programmer/Setter/Operator to join an established precision engineering manufacturer based in Bristol. The role covers programming, setting and operating CNC turning machines with a focus on Fanuc controls and component precision.

The position operates on a rotating double day shift, with an early finish on Fridays, and involves in-process inspection, documentation and close collaboration with engineering and production teams.

Qualifications

• Experience as CNC Turner Programmer/Setter/Operator
• Strong CNC turning and programming experience
• Good working knowledge of Fanuc controls
• Ability to independently programme, set and operate CNC turning machines
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Understanding of tolerances and GD&T
• Knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds and machining parameters
• Experience using measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, plug gauges)
• Ability to troubleshoot machining and programme issues
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Job description

THOMAS Professional is recruiting an experienced CNC Turner - Programmer/Setter/Operator to join an established precision engineering manufacturer based in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC Turner with strong programming and setting skills who is confident taking responsibility for machining processes from initial setup through to finished component.

The position operates on a rotating double day shift, alternating between early and late shifts, with an early finish on Fridays.

The Role

As a CNC Turner - Programmer/Setter/Operator, your responsibilities will include:

• Programming, setting and operating CNC turning machines
• Working predominantly with Fanuc controls
• Creating, editing and optimising CNC programmes
• Producing precision components from engineering drawings and specifications
• Setting tooling, work offsets and machine datums
• Manufacturing soft jaws where required
• Selecting appropriate cutting tools, tool holders and fixtures
• Optimising speeds, feeds and cycle times
• Troubleshooting programme, tooling and machining issues
• Monitoring machining processes and making adjustments where necessary
• Carrying out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
• Ensuring components are manufactured accurately and to required tolerances
• Completing relevant production and inspection documentation
• Working closely with engineering and production teams to support continuous improvement

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with:

• Previous experience as a CNC Turner Programmer/Setter/Operator
• Strong CNC turning and programming experience
• Good working knowledge of Fanuc controls
• The ability to independently programme, set and operate CNC turning machines
• Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Good understanding of tolerances and GD&T
• Strong knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds and machining parameters
• Experience using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and plug gauges
• The ability to troubleshoot machining and programme issues
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Experience within precision engineering or a highly regulated manufacturing environment would be advantageous.

Salary & Benefits

• £41,500 - £44,000 per annum, depending on experience
