Job summary

The Best Connection Employment Group is recruiting for a CNC Operator and Toolmaker in Doncaster. The role involves operating and programming CNC mills and lathes, maintaining tooling and fixtures, and supporting production schedules on a 40-hour week.

Applicants should hold a Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification with strong CNC experience, good reading of drawings, and a proactive, team-based approach to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Strong experience in CNC machining, toolmaking, milling, and turning.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with tool maintenance, repair, and manufacturing processes.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
• Supervisory experience is desirable but not essential.
• Flexible approach to workload and changing business demands.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, modify, and maintain tooling, jigs, fixtures, and attachments.
• Operate, set, and programme CNC mills and lathes.
• Carry out preventative maintenance on tooling and production equipment.
• Repair and maintain diecasting machines and dies.
• Manufacture replacement parts through milling and turning processes.
• Change tool and work offsets as required.
• Improve machining programmes through optimisation of speeds, feeds, tooling, and machining strategies.
• Test tooling before release to production.
• Monitor tooling lifespan and manufacture or order replacement parts when required.
• Maintain KanBan stock systems and tooling databases.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support production schedules and departmental KPI targets.
• Attend daily production meetings and work closely with the Production Controller.
• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Assist with staff supervision, attendance monitoring, and return-to-work interviews where required.
