Job summary

Career Makers in Halifax, West Yorkshire is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Setter / Operator to set and operate CNC Vertical Milling Machines, load fixtures, prepare tooling and load CNC programs to manufacture high-quality components.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, using precision measuring instruments, and ensuring parts meet tight tolerances; you will work 38 hours per week with overtime opportunities in a friendly, supportive team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years' experience as CNC Milling Setter/Operator.
• Ability to read engineering drawings accurately.
• Experience with Heidenhain controls desirable.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC vertical milling machines.
• Load fixtures, vices and workholding equipment.
• Install and adjust cutting tools as required.
• Upload and verify CNC programmes.
• Carry out tool offsets and minor programme edits as needed.
• Conduct in-process inspections with precision measuring tools.

CNC Milling Setter / Operator

Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire

Salary: £16.00 per hour

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Milling Setter / Operator to join a well-established precision engineering business based in Halifax.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC Vertical Milling Machines, including loading fixtures, preparing tooling and loading CNC programmes to manufacture high-quality components.

Working Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 07:00 – 15:30

Friday: 07:00 – 13:00

38 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

• Set and operate CNC Vertical Milling Machines
• Accurately load fixtures, vices and workholding equipment
• Install and adjust cutting tools according to job requirements
• Upload and verify CNC programmes
• Carry out tool offsets and minor programme adjustments where required
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions
• Complete in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers and gauges
• Ensure components meet required tolerances and quality standards
• Maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to achieve production targets

Skills & Experience Required:

• Previous experience as a CNC Milling Setter / Operator, ideally with 4+ years' experience
• Strong understanding of CNC machining principles and tooling
• Confident interpreting engineering drawings
• Competent using precision measuring instruments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Desirable Experience

• Experience using Heidenhain CNC controls
• Ability to make minor CNC programme edits
• Previous experience within precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment
