Meridian Business Support is seeking a CNC Setter / Operator for a leading global engineering company.

  • £36,200 per annum (basic salary is £31,800 + £4,400 shift allowance)
  • Working Monday to Thursday - late shift 14:00 to 23:30
  • 38 hours per week, overtime available on Fridays
  • 35 days annual leave (including bank holidays)

As a CNC Setter / Operator, you'll be responsible for setting and operating CNC lathes to produce high-quality precision parts. Your duties include preparing machines, running production cycles, and conducting part inspections using measuring tools such as verniers, micrometers, and gauges. You'll ensure each component meets exacting standards (around 0.1 - 0.2 tolerance).

You'll work closely with team leaders and other departments, following SOPs, production plans, and maintenance schedules. Maintaining a clean and efficient workstation, participating in asset care, and contributing to continuous improvement are expected. Flexibility is key, and support for team training or other tasks may be required.

The company seeks candidates with at least 1 year of CNC Setter / Operator experience in production or machine shop environments. Solid experience with callipers, micrometers, verniers, gauges, and first-off/batch checking and a good understanding of reading engineering diagrams/technical drawings are necessary.

Experience in one or several of the following materials is preferred: Aluminium, steel, Inconel, plastics, stainless steel, or cast iron.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Set and operate CNC lathes to manufacture precision components according to specifications and daily plans.
  2. Inspect and verify part quality using measuring tools, ensuring all outputs meet tight tolerances.
  3. Follow SOPs and adhere to production rates for consistency and efficiency.
  4. Perform deburring, cleaning, and packaging of components.
  5. Support basic maintenance and asset care.
  6. Comply with EHS practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and risk reduction.
  7. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Communicate effectively with team members and support functions to resolve issues and maintain workflow.
Key Skills / Experience
  1. At least 1 year experience as a CNC Setter/Operator in a production or machine shop environment.
  2. Proficient with measuring equipment including callipers, micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
  3. Experience with first-off inspection and batch checking.
  4. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings or technical diagrams.
  5. Experience working with materials like aluminium, steel, Inconel, plastics, stainless steel, or cast iron.
