Job summary

MAS Precision Engineering Limited is seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join our established precision machining team in the United Kingdom. You will set and operate Star sliding head and Nakamura fixed head machines to produce high-quality components and maintain production targets.

The ideal candidate will read engineering drawings, perform in-process inspections, adjust tooling and offsets, and contribute to continuous improvement while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in CNC setting and operating within precision engineering.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience working to tight tolerances.
  • Experience working on batch sizes of 500-50000.
  • Good understanding of tooling, offsets and machining processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating CNC Star sliding head and Nakamura fixed head machines.
  • Producing first-off samples for the Quality Manager to review.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Performing in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Adjusting tooling, offsets and machine parameters to maintain quality.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance checks and ensuring machines are in good working order.
  • Maintaining coolant levels and general machine upkeep.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with health & safety standards.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Accurately completing job documentation and recording production data.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and efficiency within the workshop.

Salary: £15.50 - £18.50 (depending on experience)

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating Star sliding head and Nakamura fixed head machines to produce high-quality precision components, ensuring production targets and quality standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating CNC Star sliding head and Nakamura fixed head machines
  • Producing first-off samples for the Quality Manger to review
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings

  • Adjusting tooling, offsets, and machine parameters to maintain quality

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a reliable and experienced CNC Setter / Operator with a strong work ethic and a keen eye for detail.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in CNC setting and operating within precision engineering
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience working to tight tolerances
  • Experience working on batch sizes of 500-50000
  • Good understanding of tooling, offsets and machining processes
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and willing to work overtime when required
  • Strong awareness of health & safety practices

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience across a range of CNC machines or control systems
  • Previous experience in any of the sectors listed below
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement practices

Working Hours

Monday - Thursday: 7:15am - 17:30pm

  • 15-minute morning break
  • 30-minute lunch break
  • Permanent, full-time position
