Job description

The successful candidate will be required to set up and operate computer numerically controlled and manual machines to perform machining operations by performing the following duties:


Role Purpose / Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements.
  2. Locate and download programs from a DNC storage system.
  3. Interpret work instructions.
  4. Identify, select and install proper tooling for operations being performed.
  5. Calculate proper feeds and speeds for a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium and bronze.
  6. Read, understand, edit or write complete programs.
  7. Intuitively understand capabilities of tooling and machinery.
  8. Understand applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections.
  9. Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.
  10. Visually inspect final components.
  11. Perform boxing of parts to include cleaning, oiling, wrapping and boxing the final product for shipment.
  12. Perform cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing and aligning to ensure free action of movable parts and operating requirements.
  13. Use precision measuring instruments and gauging devices and perform various quality inspection type procedures to include dimensional verification.
  14. Properly identify components after assembly/manufacture.
  15. Assume responsibility for quality and functionality.
  16. Adhere to all Waukesha Bearings policies and procedures.
  17. Seek out and identify Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  18. Actively participate in daily Continuous Improvement activities.
  19. Set up all necessary measuring equipment and routinely check the calibration of the equipment while measuring.
  20. Create and maintain a team focused work environment.
  21. Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of working area.
  22. Support “Best Practices” to achieve company goals for safety, delivery, cost and quality.
  23. Ability to work rotating Day/Back/Night shifts.


Skills and Experience:

  1. Requires in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  2. Be time served in a machining discipline.
  3. Have a relevant Health and Safety awareness.
  4. Previous experience in a similar industry is preferable (Oil and Gas).
  5. Experience working with various machine control systems including Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhaim and Haas.
  6. Must be self-motivated and possess facilitation skills to be used in a team setting.
  7. Prior experience with precision inspection equipment including, but not limited to, micrometres, callipers, height gauges and bore gauges.
  8. Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of less than .0025mm.
  9. Self-directed.

Qualifications:

  1. HNC Engineering preferred.
  2. A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a lean-manufacturing work environment.
