CNC Milling Setter/Programmer – Heidenhain Controls
Location: Sandy, Beds
Salary: £17 - £18 p/h (DOE) + Overtime
Hours: Mon–Fri Days | 39 hrs/week | Overtime @ 1.5x

The Opportunity
This is a hands-on CNC role focused on programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines for the manufacture of bespoke, small-batch stainless-steel components used in high-spec mechanical assemblies. You’ll be joining a close-knit team in a business known for quality craftsmanship and precision engineering.
Key Responsibilities
• Full setup, programming, and operation of CNC milling machines with Heidenhain controls
• Reading and interpreting detailed technical drawings
• Creating and editing CNC programs from scratch at the machine
• Selecting and setting appropriate tooling and fixtures
• Performing first-off and in-process inspections using standard metrology equipment
• Contributing to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing processes
• Working within a team-focused shop floor environment and adhering to all health & safety standards
Requirements
• Proven experience as a CNC Milling Setter/Programmer/Operator
• Proficiency with Heidenhain controls (essential)
• Strong understanding of precision machining, tolerances, and finishes
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Solid background in engineering drawings and part inspection
• A recognised apprenticeship or City & Guilds qualification is preferred, though strong time-served engineers will be equally considered
