Job summary

Planet Recruitment recruitment for an experienced CNC Miller/ Programmer/ Setter Operator in Abingdon. Role involves programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines with Heidenhain controls across 3, 4 and 5 axes, including large components up to 2.5 metres, to tight tolerances.

You will read drawings, set tooling and machine parameters, inspect your own work and contribute to quality documentation and continuous improvement.

Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Salary: £20.00 - £23.00 per hour

Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week

Job Type: Permanent

We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Miller / Programmer / Setter Operator to join a well-established engineering business based in Abingdon.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC professional with strong Heidenhain experience and a background in 3, 4 and 5-axis milling. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities:

• Programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines


• Working with 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines


• Programming directly at the machine using Heidenhain controls


• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings


• Setting tooling, workholding and machine parameters


• Manufacturing large components to tight tolerances


• Inspecting and measuring your own work to ensure right-first-time quality


• Completing quality documentation and reports


• Supporting and training other members of the team where required


• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs


• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment

Requirements:

• Previous experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines


• Strong experience with Heidenhain controls


• Experience with 5-axis milling


• Ideally 5+ years' experience within CNC machining


• Experience machining large components, up to approximately 2.5 metres


• Ability to work to tight tolerances


• Confident reading engineering drawings


• Good understanding of inspection and measurement equipment


• Experience with Doosan, Matsuura or Mazak machines would be advantageous


• Fanuc experience would be beneficial but is not essential


• Apprenticeship or relevant engineering background preferred


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality


• Reliable, hardworking and able to work independently
