Job summary

Recruit Engineering is seeking a Manufacturing Support Project Engineer for a Manchester-based role with a global Tier 1 defence client. The position is permanent, offering a hands-on manufacturing improvement focus alongside structured project delivery.

You will develop machining processes, fixtures, tooling and SOPs, support machine installations and coordinate with suppliers to keep production safe, efficient and consistent.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles and manufacturing processes, including milling.
• Experience designing fixtures, choosing cutting tools and workholding.
• Proven track record of improving machining methods and efficiency.
• Experience producing SOPs and manufacturing documentation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
• Experience managing engineering or manufacturing projects.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
• Ability to read technical drawings and machining specs.
• Hands-on problem solving with strong organization and attention to detail.
• Clear communication and ability to liaise with suppliers and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to CNC machining operations and resolve production issues.
• Design fixtures, jigs, tooling and workholding solutions.
• Select cutting tools and optimise machining strategies.
• Improve tooling, methods and process efficiency.
• Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions and documentation.
• Train operators on processes, procedures and best practice.
• Manage engineering projects using structured project management methods.
• Use Microsoft Project to plan, monitor and report project activity.
• Coordinate machine installations, commissioning and contract management.
• Work with suppliers and contractors to ensure on-time, safe delivery.
• Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical updates and project reports to internal teams.
