Nicholas Associates has an excellent opportunity for a CNC Manufacturing Engineer, to join an established & growing client in the Sheffield area.

Reporting to the Process Leaders, you will be a highly motivated individual with experience of developing and implementing new programmes on all CNC machines, working to deliver significant operational improvements year on year.

This role is about technical leadership and sharing the latest advances in tooling and programming with colleagues. Continuous improvement of existing processes and procedures will be required to maintain the company’s reputation for cost, quality and performance. You will support the Process Leaders to make sure that productivity targets are exceeded, as well as being a key member of the team tasked with reviewing new business opportunities to make sure that the customer requirements can be met, with the existing equipment and skillsets within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, communicate and deliver a progressive and credible improvement plan each year to reduce cost, improve quality and rate of production for existing part numbers
  • Lead the introduction of new parts from a technical CNC perspective, proving out new programs and supporting the implementation in production
  • Lead by example with regards to the Health, Safety and Welfare of employees
  • Support management with technical insight on investment plans to make sure the business maximises the utilisation and productivity of new equipment
  • Monitor tooling usage and consider ways to reduce the company’s expenditure on tooling, working with tooling suppliers where appropriate
  • Suggest and lead improvement projects as agreed with the management team
  • Work with process owners to identify process improvements
  • Deliver practical hands‑on training to eliminate waste in all CNC processes
  • Support the Process Leaders to ensure the company delivers the highest standards of customer service, ensuring delivery dates are achieved on time and quantities are complete.
  • Support the review of CNC skills within the business to help make sure the business can run efficiently day to day. This includes identifying gaps and proposing training where appropriate.

Required Skills & Experience:

You will have had a successful career to date in manufacturing, with a strong CNC machining background.

You will have knowledge of Lean production tools and techniques and be able to provide examples when they have successfully implemented improvements in a busy production environment.

You will have good numerate and analytical skills, to compliment your strong technical programming and machining skills.

You will be expected to develop new ideas, create solutions, harness technology and be passionate about delivering improvements. You will contribute towards multiskilling and facilitating flexible shifts/working practices to assist with maximising the output per employee.

You will have knowledge and experience of the quality standard ISO:9001 and the development and implementation of internal training quality programmes.

Strong planning and delivery skills will be key when introducing new parts to the timescales and costs you have advised during product assessments. It is expected that a level of testing and trialling will be required and this should be formally recorded and communicated to management as development time.

Improving productivity and reducing manufacturing costs per part are two key objectives of this role and you must have implemented major change in these areas.

You will be a person who thrives on the day to day pressures of running a busy production operation and will have the adaptability to handle the day to day requirements, as well as planning longer term improvement projects and initiatives.
