Job summary

Sulzer is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist at our Leeds facility to set up, operate, and monitor 5-axis CNC machining centres in line with engineering drawings. The role requires hands-on experience with 5-axis machines, Mazak controls, and a strong focus on in-process inspection and quality documentation.

Qualifications

• Vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience in CNC machining.
• Proven experience operating and setting 5-axis CNC machining centres.
• Desirable: Mazak 5-axis machining centres and Mazatrol controls.
• In-process inspection and completion of quality documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and measurement data.

Responsibilities

• Carry out 5-axis machining operations safely and efficiently.
• Perform in-process inspection of components to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Complete associated inspection records, production documentation, and quality paperwork accurately.
• Identify and troubleshoot machining or production issues, escalating where necessary.
• Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas to a high standard.
• Follow all health, safety, and quality procedures, reporting any hazards or non-conformances.
• Work closely with colleagues and other departments to meet production targets and customer requirements.
• Support and share knowledge with less experienced team members where required.

About the role

Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machining centres to manufacture components in line with engineering drawings and specifications.

• Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
• Experience using measuring equipment and quality control processes.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
