Job summary

Morgan Jones Recruitment is recruiting a motivated Machine Setter/Operator for a Whitstable-based CNC machine shop. You will set and run multi-tasking lathes to produce precision components for internal assembly, in a fast-paced production environment.

The role requires reading drawings, using measuring equipment, and maintaining quality and delivery standards. Hours are 37.5 per week with a 6:00am-2:00pm week 1 and 2:00pm-10:30pm week 2; permanent contract with a 25% shift premium and DOE

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC machine tools.
• Experience with CNC lathes, ideally 4-axis.
• Ability to read and edit Fanuc-based programs.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience using measuring equipment for quality inspection.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Safety-conscious with good communication.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC lathes to produce small and medium production batches.
• Manufacture components from raw materials efficiently and accurately.
• Inspect finished work against engineering drawings using measuring equipment.
• Identify and report any quality concerns or defects promptly.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly machine maintenance checks.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and support 5S initiatives.
• Reduce setup and cycle times while monitoring tooling performance.
• Carry out deburring, cleaning, final inspection, and traceability documentation.
• Collaborate with colleagues to meet production targets and deadlines.

About the Role

Our Client is seeking a motivated and reliable Machine Setter / Operator to join their Machine Shop team in Whitstable. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC professional to join a well-established manufacturing business producing precision-engineered components for internal assembly operations. Working within a fast-paced production environment, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC multi-tasking lathes to manufacture components to exact specifications while maintaining exceptional quality and delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC lathes to produce small and medium production batches.

• Inspect finished work against engineering drawings using a range of measuring equipment.
• Identify and report any quality concerns or defects promptly.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly machine maintenance checks.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and support 5S initiatives.
• Reduce setup and cycle times while monitoring tooling performance and efficiency.
• Carry out de-burring, cleaning, final inspection, and completion of traceability documentation.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet production targets and deadlines.

About You

• Previous experience operating CNC machine tools.
• Experience working with CNC lathes, ideally with a minimum of 4-axis machinery.
• Knowledge of reading and editing Fanuc-based programs.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience using measuring equipment for detailed quality inspection.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Safety-conscious with excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Desirable

• Experience with twin spindle machines.
• Knowledge of AS9100 aerospace quality standards.
