If you're already working on CNC machine tools and electrical fault-finding is one of your strengths, this could be worth a conversation.
We are recruiting a CNC Field Service Engineer for an established UK machine-tool business supporting manufacturers across the country.
The job is straightforward in principle.
A customer has a machine that needs installing, servicing or repairing. You work out what is wrong, fix what you can, get the right technical support when you need it and help get that machine back into production.
Sometimes that means an electrical fault.
Sometimes it's a control, drive, parameter, sensor or PLC issue.
Sometimes the problem doesn't neatly fit into one box.
That's why we're looking for someone who understands CNC machinery rather than somebody who simply ticks every line on a specification.
You will work at customer sites across the UK, supporting CNC machine tools throughout their working life.
That will include:
You will spend much of your time working independently, so you need to be comfortable making sensible engineering decisions on site.
But you won't be expected to know absolutely everything.
There is an experienced technical team behind you, alongside manufacturer support and further training.
The most important thing is hands-on experience with CNC machine tools.
You might already be a:
We are particularly interested in people who are confident with electrical and electronic diagnosis.
Experience with controls such as Heidenhain, Siemens SINUMERIK or Fanuc would be very relevant.
You do not need to be an expert in all three.
Likewise, experience with drives, PLCs, machine electrics, safety systems, 5-axis machines, industrial networks or calibration is useful, but we are not trying to find somebody who has done every possible part of the job on every possible machine.
What matters more is that you understand CNC machinery, can diagnose problems methodically and know when to solve something yourself and when to involve additional technical support.
You will also need:
The basic salary is around £45,000, alongside:
For someone with particularly strong CNC machine-tool service experience, it is still worth having a conversation if your current earnings are above the advertised basic.
This is a machine-tool business where service engineering is a core part of what they do.
You won't be the only engineer trying to support unfamiliar machinery with nobody technical to call.
There is an experienced team behind you, a broad CNC machine-tool portfolio and access to manufacturer training as your knowledge develops.
The company is continuing to grow its service capability and has already added engineers to the team, with further positions still to fill.
For an experienced CNC engineer who enjoys diagnosing difficult problems and getting machinery running again, there is plenty here to get stuck into.
If CNC machine tools are already part of your world and you're strong electrically, we'd like to hear from you.
