Job summary

Thales UK is recruiting a Principal Applications Engineer to lead modernising and migrating engineering environments to a cloud-based Azure platform while keeping existing toolsets available to engineers across the UK.

You will build and support a cloud-native tooling environment, drive migration from on-prem to Azure, work in an agile team, and coach junior staff, delivering reliable, automated tooling that improves developer experience and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience in building and supporting cloud-native tooling environments.
• Strong knowledge of Azure-based deployments and migration from on-prem tooling.
• Ability to coach junior team members and promote best practices in deployment and automation.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and support industry-leading tools on Thales' Azure infrastructure (CI/CD, artifact management, code quality, licensing).
• Build or modify deployment solutions using IaC and automation.
• Improve processes through automation to enhance reliability.
• Maintain existing environments during transition to new platforms.
• Support delivery teams with automated tools to provision infrastructure.
• Implement operational best practices including monitoring, backups, and log management.
