Job summary

IBM Consulting UK FutureNow in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced DevOps/Platform Engineer to build reliable, scalable systems on OpenShift and Azure. You will implement and manage CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling, and support the observability stack with Prometheus, Loki and Grafana.

You will coordinate incident response, drive long‑term improvements and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver resilient services. A strong cloud and IaC background is essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes and containerised apps.
• Expertise in Azure cloud services, networking and cloud-native patterns.
• Experience building and managing observability with Prometheus, Loki and Grafana.
• Proven track record improving availability, performance and reliability in production.
• Strong automation and IaC skills (Terraform, Ansible or equivalent).
• Proficient scripting in Bash, Python or Go.

Responsibilities

Your Role And Responsibilities

• Build and operate highly reliable and scalable systems using OpenShift and Azure
• Implementation and management of CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling, and infrastructure improvements using (GitHub Actions, Argo CD and Tekton)
• Supporting the observability stack, including metrics, logging, dashboards, and alerting using Prometheus, Loki, Grafana and ServiceNow
• Coordinate incident response efforts, assisting with root cause analysis, and drive long‑term corrective strategies.
• Identify reliability risks and create plans to eliminate operational bottlenecks through automation and engineering improvements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including development, security, architecture, and platform engineering, to deliver reliable services.
• Maintain and manage technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
• Work with the team to create operational runbooks
• Influence infrastructure and platform roadmap decisions through data, analysis, and best‑practice guidance.
• Able to use Agile Framework (Sprints and cadences) with the use of Jira and Confluence.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

• Hands‑on experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, and containerised applications.
• Expertise with Microsoft Azure cloud services, networking, identity, and cloud‑native patterns.
• Experience implementing and managing observability platforms using Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana.
• Proven track record improving system availability, performance, and reliability in production environments.
• Strong skills in automation and infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Bash, Python, or Go.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Experienced at solving problems and troubleshooting, fixing, and resolving issues - owning incidents and problems through to route cause
• A passion to continue to learn and develop your engineering skills

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). • Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices for cloud and container environments.
